The Cathedral of Saint-Nazaire: located on the heights Point of the city, it draws on all sides the view of the city, if we approach from a distance in Beziers on the streets of Narbonne. From here, visitors also have the best views over the region. The cathedral is an outstanding example of the southern French Gothic of the fourteenth century.

The Hotel de Ville, the town hall dates from the 18th Century and is one of the attractions of the city. The city belongs to the southern French département of Hérault and lies on the river Orb and the Canal du Midi. Beziers is 20 km from the Mediterranean Sea, not far from the last foothills of the Massif Central in the level of the lower Languedoc. It is a city with more than 2700 years of history, which began with a tribal settlement on the banks of the Orb in the Neolithic Age. Beziers is a major transport hub. In addition to the waterways of the Orb and the Canal du Midi cruise in city streets RN112 (Castres to Agde), RN113 (Narbonne to Pezenas), D11 (direction Capestang and Carcassonne) and d909 (Bédarieux direction) and the A9 and A75 . The airport Béziers was increased in the years 2006 to 2007.

Bleacher Report - Front Page

Medibank International—Sydney

Unseeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis edged past Mardy Fish on Friday, dismissing the big American 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-6(5).

The two hour and 57 minute match could have ended after two sets, with Baghdatis holding a match point at 6-5 in the second set tiebreak.

Closing out the set on his first set point, Fish remained confident to begin the third set. Leading 1-0, and 3-2 in the deciding set, Fish couldn't sustain his momentum.

Baghdatis, who appears motivated to regain his top 10 form, overcame 16 aces in total by Fish to reach his second final in his last three events. Baghdatis was a winner in Stockholm, Sweden last fall (d. Oliver Rochus).

Baghdatis, who will contest his eighth final on Saturday (3-4 mark), told reporters that he couldn't be more thrilled with his current form.

“It was a tough one, and a bit of pressure today with the draw of the [Australian] Open and everything,” conceded the No. 42-ranked Baghdatis. “So [there was] a bit of pressure. I had to stay concentrated, and I tried. I had some moments of the match that I lost my concentration, but the most important thing is that I won the match and I'm playing a final tomorrow, so that's pretty positive.”

Baghdatis will have another stern test on Saturday when he faces Richard Gasquet for the title.

Gasquet won an all-French semifinal on Friday, defeating Juliean Benneteau 6-4, 7-5.

In a battle of two all-court players, Gasquet drew first blood by breaking Benneteau at 2-1 in the opening set. The elder Frenchman would level the score, only to be broken in the eighth game.

Trailing by a set, Benneteau raised his game to lead 5-3. Serving to level the match, Benneteau's nerves came into play, allowing Gasquet to regain his form.

Reeling off four straight games, Gasquet broke Benneteau to win the match.

The one hour and 39 minute victory became the second straight for Gasquet over Benneteau. Gasquet had defeated Benneteau at the 2007 event in Sydney.

With the win, Gasquet advanced to his 12th career final, and first since Stuttgart in 2008. The 23-year-old Beziers native will also look to snap a two year title drought on Saturday. Gasquet's last title came in Mumbai in 2007.

Gasquet had this to say after his victory.

"I'm really happy because I won. It wasn't a great match, not an incredible level," said Gasquet. "I was a little bit tired in the second set, but I tried to play. I was a little bit lucky. I saved three set points on my serve after I broke him, so I played well on the big points. On the really important points I played better than him. I played some good shots at 5-4, and that made the difference."

"I'm in the final in Sydney on a great court, at a great tournament. I have no pressure with it. Just to play my game."

Gasquet and Baghdatis have never met on the ATP World Tour, though, the two players know each other quite well.

It will be the first meeting between the pair. “It's very surprising because we played a lot of years together,” said Gasquet. “He's a nice guy and friend of mine. He lived in Paris, so I know him very well.”

“We used to play juniors together,” recalled Baghdatis. “He's a great player and he has a lot of talent. He looks like he worked hard this winter, and he's playing great tennis. I guess I'll enjoy my victory for today, and start thinking about the match for tomorrow.”

I'd give the slight physical advantage to Gasquet in Saturday's final.

Heineken Open—Auckland, New Zealand

American John Isner advanced to his second career final on Friday (Washington 2007), defeating No. 8 seed Albert Montanes 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Dismissing his third seeded opponent of the week, Isner jumped out the double break first-set lead.

Isner's serving prowess was matched by Montanes in the second set, with both men never conceding their deliveries.

Pounding 10 aces in the second set, Isner grabbed a slight mini-break lead to prevail in the tiebreak.

Defeating Montanes for the second straight time, Isner reflected on his first straight set win of the event.

"I played a very good first set and in the second I wanted to go ahead 2-0 and I couldn’t break him in the second game. That got me a little tired and took my momentum a little bit," explained Isner.

"I was happy to stay in that second set until the end and win it in the tie-break. It is good to finally win in straight sets."

With the win, Isner will next face former top 10 player, and Australian Open finalist Arnaud Clement. Clement defeated 2008 champion Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 7-6 (2).

Clement, who has dropped to No. 67 in the world, used his famed return-of-serve to break Kohlschreiber in the eighth game of the first set.

Leading by a set and on serve, Clement continue to press his German opponent. Squandering one break point chance mid-way through the set, Clement would eventually dominate the deciding tiebreak.

Never losing his serve throughout the one hour and 39 minute affair, Clement advanced to his first final since Nottingham in 2007.

The Frenchman will bid for his first title since capturing the Washington DC title in 2006.

Clement commented on his excitement of reaching another Tour level final.

“I am very happy to be in the final again," said Clement. "Since 1997, I have played between 23-30 tournaments a year and I have only been in ten finals, so of course it is special to be in a final. I think I improved in every match. It is important to play your best tennis at the end of the week, so I hope I can play my best match tomorrow. If I play like I did today I think I have a chance to win.”

Clement and Isner have never played on the ATP World Tour.

Considering the conditions, I'd say the final will go three sets and Isner will win.

Etang de Montady - An impressive farm system for more than 700 yearsOf the four vantage points of the oppidum unfolds a panorama: the Cevennes, Beziers and the coastal plain, the Canal du Midi, which runs directly south of the oppidum, and in the distance, Mont Canigou. If you look in a northwesterly direction, you will see in the plain below the oppidum the strange Etang de Montady, a vast former marshland, in the 13 Drained by a century monastic orders and transformed into arable land.It looks like an enormous pie with dozens of narrow wedge pitfalls of different hue, a rural slice of the circle in the middle.

After the Pont du Gard, Carcassonne and are the nine locks of Fonseranes the most visited attraction in Languedoc-Roussillon. This flight of locks at Beziers is an absolute masterpiece of architecture of the Canal du Midi. At a length of 300 meters difference in height that is overcome of 21,50 meters. It is exciting to watch the lock operation of the many houseboats: Driving into the top lock, moor vessel floodgate to go, water is drained (woe betide you forget the rope to slacken and to hold loose) on floodgate, short Continue to the next lock chamber Ship tie, floodgate to go, water is drained ... and the whole nine times already, some crew was at the end of the smuggling exhausted, but happy to have mastered this challenge. As a visitor one of the locks is just here, almost one wants to lend a hand himself. You can hear the quiet thoughtful command of experienced skippers and the excited shouts of the inexperienced crew members. Lust, as well as time to try something? All along the Canal du Midi office where you can rent houseboats and even make a trip - perhaps through the nine locks of Fonseranes -. (Because of the tremendous rise in river tourism was built next to the locks of Fonseranes a boat lift - even this is very impressive, even if it is no longer in operation).

Bleacher Report - Front Page

With the holiday season upon us, and the end of another year a mere eight days away, I once again find myself a little nostalgic.

I'm not quite sure if it's that whole business of making a new year's resolution, or the fact that my introspection has left me with thoughts of what I want, need, could have, and don't need at all.

Whatever the case, I'm pretty certain that all of us have these thoughts from time-to-time, I mean, are we really ever satisfied?

Along my path to nostalgia this week, I found myself reliving fond memories of my '08 trip to the Miami Masters 1000 event—again cold winters in Toronto equal warm thoughts of a beach down south.

I remember leaving the stadium court as Rafael Nadal had just finished waxing Tomas Berdych to make his second final in Florida—Nadal at the time had struggled with Berdych's game, splitting his first six meetings with the powerful Czech.

As I grabbed my pen and paper and walked around a quiet, but satisfied Crandon Park (90 degree temperatures and palm trees don't hurt the ability to be satisfied), I had no intention of seeing anymore tennis.

However, as I walked closer to the set of generously laid out practice courts, my keen tennis ears couldn't help but over hear a series of well struck strokes. It was apparent from the sound of the ball that the crispness of the strokes weren't coming from two concession workers taking a lunch break—don't think for a minute that I haven't seen my fair share of lemonade stand attendants get out there and whack a few towards the tail end of an event.

The first sight I remember seeing as I drew closer to court No. 10 was a white baseball cap on backwards. I was lost for a split second trying to identity the player in question. More importantly why would anyone except the four semifinalists be sticking around the event?

Peering over to the other side of the net, it was easy to recognize the other player—it was talented but under-the-radar Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. In fact, as I scanned over the court more Frenchmen began to pop up—Guy Forget being the second, to be followed by Francis, yes Francis Gasquet.

With a slew of French faithful taking over the purplish-blue hard-court, the identity of the unknown player finally became easy to construct: It was (at the time) world No. 9 Richard Gasquet.

At first, it was odd to see Gasquet and Mathieu grind out a practice session on the asphalt, considering they had both lost early in the event, and the clay-court season was soon to begin.

Again, the Florida sun was merciless that afternoon, so it took me some time to connect the dots.

The premise of the late afternoon hit by Forget was to fine tune his French squad for an upcoming Davis Cup tie against the US in North Carolina.

Gasquet was far and away the best hope the French had at time—with good reason mind you, Gasquet was simply the epitome of tennis talent.

Watching the practice session from what seemed like a stone's throw away, I simply stood in awe of what was taking place.

I've been fortunate to see lifetimes worth of tennis in my time; I've even seen Gasquet play a fist-full of Tour and Grand Slam level matches live.

But on the sun-soaked afternoon in the Keys of Florida, I was treated to something new, a heightened degree of talent if you will.

The breakdown of the practice session wasn't elaborate, the two players rallied cross-court with the intention of gaining timing and depth on their shots.

However, it was Gasquet, who outright stole the show on practice court No. 10.

Half-volleying seemingly every shot, Gasquet's eclectic backhand was a slight to see. Again, I've seen pretty much every player practice and play matches in the past 15 years and no one hits a backhand like Gasquet.

For good measure, the 22-year-old Beziers native decided to work on his unorthodox, but fluid inside-out forehand—just in case his backhand was just a touch off during competition.

As I continued to marvel at Gasquet's ball-striking, a sensible and echoing thought came to my mind: Was Gasquet satisfied?

Here was a guy who had won his first pro match at the age of 15—anyone remember Franco Squillari?

And taking nothing away from the "Real Deal," here was a player who had been coined "Baby Federer," for his resemblance to game's greatest champion.

But was that really enough for Gasquet, did he even understand what he'd been given, and more importantly what was expected?

As a pigeon toed Forget walked around the court, picking up balls and giving a light smirk to Gasquet's father, I sensed a level of disappointed on the face of the team captain.

It was as if Forget wished he could go over to Gasquet and shake him upside down, hoping that his senses would realize his tremendous talent.

With the practice session coming to a close, all seemed well for the French squad; both Gasquet and Mathieu had broken a sweat, and Forget had some sense or relief heading into next week's Davis Cup tie.

Alas, the magic that was cast on court No. 10 in Miami would not carry over to North Carolina. Inexplicably, Gasquet ducked his match against Andy Roddick, citing a blister for his cause of his withdrawal.

A valiant but insuccinct effort by Michael Llodra would not suffice against Roddick, leaving the French team down early to the Americans.

What was perhaps the pinnacle of disappoint during the weekend's tie was Gasquet's too-little, too-late attempt against James Blake in the meaningless fifth rubber (the Americans had closed out the French team on Saturday with a doubles victory).

Gasquet's lame withdrawal in North Carolina pretty much summed up his career: Take for granted what you have, and settle for the mediocre consequences.

As I left the tennis center at Key Biscayne, witnessing, or further solidifying my perception of Gasquet's game, I had a feeling that the Frenchman's career (remember he was only 22-years-old at the time) would never see the potential that is deserves.

Inevitably, Gasquet didn't care much for what he was given; his gifts were granted, but were not condoned.

I guess, it all comes down to that notion of being satisfied. Very few have the talents of Gasquet, and by the same token very few have the untapped talent that the Frenchman possesses.

Let's hope, that the future looks bright for the gifted Gasquet, he sure looked great on the Friday in Miami.

For a quick project I was asked to revisit my old blobs effect. The client (which, again, sells flavoured liquids) wanted a xmas greetings e-card, so the idea was to play with the liquid that would form specific shapes. Animating was a matter of using eaze and its beziers, but making it look a bit realistic took most of the research time. Here it's how the old version of the effect worked: As I'm sure you had guessed already it's all based from a bunch of circles. Then we apply a BlurFilter to the Sprite that contains the circles.
